Attachment Theory and Interventions  is a CEU accredited training course that provides insightful clinical application of trauma and attachment concepts.   Heather Boynton, LCSW,  provides an introduction to attachment theory, trauma symptoms, and effects of trauma experiences on the brain.

The course will conclude with a discussion of managing the behaviors/coping mechanisms that the client uses to cause relational/social issues for themselves. The participants will learn interventions to implement as well as teaching the caregivers to implement these interventions so the families can assist these children with soothing and techniques to help these children to feel safe and secure in their environments.

IV.  Limbic System

  • Parts and functions of the limbic system
  • Relationship between amygdala and hippocampus
  • Behaviors exhibited by children with attachment issues
  • Group Exercise:Meaning of Behavior
    exercise completed again applying new
    concepts to interrupting client behaviors.

V. Circle of Security and Circle of Trust

  • Review the Circle of Security and Circle of Trust handouts
  • Experiential Group exercise reflecting on the participants history and applying their clients to this process

VI.  Interventions for Attachment and Trauma Population

  • Explanation of Interventions
  • Behavioral interventions : what to avoid
  • Group exercise: Role play interventions
  • Time In and acknowledgement skills
  • Feelings recognized, labeled, validated, and problem solving
  • Group Exercise: Role Play interventions
  • Natural & Logical consequences, not Punishments
  • Group Exercise
