Residential Counselor
Legacy House

JOB DESCRIPTION

Provide residents basic needs; cultivate a positive, cooperative staff and resident social climate, which will improve a resident’s personal problem orientation and ability to resolve interpersonal difficulties.  Coordinate home operations to meet the needs of the Legacy Home. 

JOB RESPONSIBILTIES

Responsible for developing and demonstrating a progressive mastery of group building skills.  Provide daily verbal and written behavioral feedback necessary to plan, develop, and implement group and individualized treatment plans for residents.  Coordinate and implement group and individualized plans as prescribed by the Treatment Team.  

Responsible for the daily supervision and safety of residents as well as meeting any residents physical psychological, medical and spiritual needs as mandated by Core and by Legacy. (Providing general living supplies, arrange transportation for residents who wish to attend religious services, identifying residents needing medical attention, etc.) 

Providing regularly scheduled awake coverage.  Maintain a clean and healthy living environment for residents.  Make routine nightly checks on a student.  Inspect the residence for damages and submit repair request as needed. 

Must communicate effectively with other staff relating all pertinent information, which regard to the overall welfare of students, fellow staff and the Legacy residence.  Reporting and logging must be done in accordance with Legacy policies and procedures as well as CORE standards.

Plan, develop, facilitate, and interact with residents during any and all activities. 
Attend regularly scheduled team meetings and training programs.

EDUCATION, SKILLS, EXPERIENCE, AND ABILITIES

Bachelors Degree, preferably in the human services or social services field, ability to work cooperatively, dependably, competently, and constructively, with all employees.  First Aid training completed or scheduled by one-month employment anniversary.

Intensive In-Home Therapist (Counselor)

QUALIFICATIONS:  Must have a bachelor’s degree in Human Services or an equivalent discipline, and two or more years working with youth and their families. Specific knowledge in crisis intervention and family counseling, with good communication skills is highly desirable. Counselors must have reliable transportation and expect to be available to families on a 24-hour basis.

DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: Specific duties and responsibilities to be assumed by a family counselor include:

  1. Provide home-based, crisis –oriented counseling and case management to youths and their families.
  2. Work with clients to foster the development of new improved coping, problem solving, and communication skills.
  3. Develop individualized service plans in conjunction with referring agencies, other social services professional, the involved youths and their families.
  4. Implement service plans and monitor progress.
  5. Educate family members regarding existing community services, and act as a advocate in connecting family members to these services.
  6. Respond, or arrange for a response to calls on "family crisis", on a 24-hour, seven day a week basis.
  7. Maintain up-to-date client records, and prepare the necessary reports in a timely and accurate manner.
  8. Participate in clinical supervision on a regular basis.
  9. Conduct or participate in case reviews and staffing as required.
  10. Attend court when necessary and maintain a close coordination with referring agencies on a regular basis.
  11. Establish a good working relationship with other public and private agencies/services, and interface collaboratively with them.
  12. Support Regional Managers and Coordinators as required
  13. Assume self-empowerment, when applicable, to solve problems and act on opportunities, but maintain good communication with supervisor to be sure of the appropriateness of the actions taken.
